Introduction:

Hello there! As the economy has taken quite a hit recently, so have my in-home daycare inquiries! So, I thought it was about time to sit down and reintroduce myself! Below are my qualifications and a little about me in bullet points, but I wanted to write a bit about myself from my own voice as well. My name is Christina Roth, and I have been doing childcare and taking care of children basically since I was a child, honestly. I have always loved children and babies, and even before the age of 10, I was helping in the nursery at church, carrying younger cousins around on my hip, helping entertain children younger than myself when my parents were babysitting, etc. As I grew older, I took babysitting classes, began babysitting at the age of 14, was a mother’s helper when my mother nannied 2 little boys on days off of school and in the summer time from ages 14-16, regularly served in the nursery at church, taught Sunday School, helped with Children’s Church, VBS, and other children’s activities throughout middle and high school. Then, when I went to college, I volunteered in the nursery at the church I attended and got a job at the local Head Start daycare center. I also did a version of Big Brother, Big Sister, where I had an 8-year-old Little Sister in college, and that was quite fun to take the little girl on walks around the campus. I graduated from Truman State University with a Bachelor’s degree in communication disorders, which is the prerequisite to either a Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology or a Doctorate in Audiology, but I didn’t really want to do either of those things as childare was my passion but I didn’t know how to get a degree in that as a young college student. I kept the job with Head Start all through college, and when I graduated, I actually got a permanent job with one of the other local Head Start daycares in the same city because of that connection. My husband then graduated from College the next year, and we moved back to our hometown, where I got a job at a local daycare, and I worked there for about 10 months until I was asked to take a position nannying for a little boy with cerebral palsy. I did that for about 3 months, and then he was able to return to school, as this was a short-term job while he was sick.

The idea of a daycare begins…

After that, my husband and I moved to a house instead of an apartment, and so I decided to open All God’s Children In Home Daycare. From 2015-2020, I helped raise so many kiddos from ages 6 weeks to 12 years old, if you can believe it! In 2020, however, we lost someone very special to the daycare, and that someone was named Grandma Judy, my beloved mom-in-law, who frequently helped teach music, as that was her career as a music teacher, and she helped on field trips, and just on days when I needed a helping hand with several toddlers! So, in 2021, the name of the daycare changed to Children of Jubilee Childcare in honor of Grandma Judy’s unending Joy in life. Since 2021, we have helped more children chase their dreams and learn about what excites them. How do I do that, you ask? Simple. Embrace their interests! Is your child interested in Sharks? We will go to the library and check out books about sharks, learn to count by counting sharks, learn to draw by drawing sharks, learn colors by looking at the colors of different sharks, and learn letters by learning how to spell shark! You get the picture!

11 years later…

So, here I am, doing the same thing for 11 years and sometimes it makes you a little bored doing the same thing over and over again and you might want a change. That’s where I am. It’s time for a change. I have one infant/toddler that I am going to age out of the daycare and starting this fall we’ll be expanding by opening a homeschool co-op for children ages 4-8 years old or grades PreK-4 through 2nd grade! Check out the section labeled Co-op Schedule/Curriculum for more information but I’m very excited to make this change and I hope you are too!

Safety is a Number 1 Priority

It is really very important to me that children feel safe and secure enough to learn and chase their dreams, and that’s the other important thing to know about me! I am extremely trauma-informed in that I have had training and experience dealing with children from trauma, AND I have received years of extensive therapy to deal with my own childhood trauma, so you can rest assured that your child will be safe physically AND emotionally in my care. We only do gentle caregiving here at Children of Jubilee, meaning that there’s no yelling, shouting, shaming, or any negative touch whatsoever. Discipline is handled simply as teaching and keeping children safe. For example, I don’t automatically assume that a child “knows better” so the first step is always to teach the correct behavior and then remind the child of the behavior and if they need help with remembering they get a warning that if they do something one more time they will have to stop the activity they are doing and sit down for a time-in with me to talk about why they are not listening or they may lose privileges with a toy for a few minutes if necessary to stay safe, be kind, etc. We also have a calming corner for tantrums, meltdowns, and big feelings. So yes, I am a proponent of gentle caregiving, but that does not mean that there are no consequences. There are times when children lose privileges with a certain toy or activity for the rest of the day, or morning or afternoon, etc, if they are deliberately not listening and being unsafe with themselves, me, or friends.

My Faith and Beliefs

I am also a devout Christian woman who can do prayer, bible stories, faith lessons, etc, with the children, but I am also not derogatory towards any other religion and I am inclusive of every race, culture, ethnicity, nationality, or sexuality. I am an ally through, and through, and we have books about Black culture, Polynesian culture, Indian Culture, First Nations culture, etc, and I make a point of going to the library any time I have a child from a different culture than I am and getting books about those cultures. I also have a variety of books with representation from all kinds of different families, including non-conventional families where there may be 2 dads or 2 moms or a single family household or grandparents, or an aunt and uncle as caregivers. I aim to be as inclusive as possible and as loving as possible to all those I meet, as Jesus called us to be. I will say that for this section, if your child is in my daycare/co-op, you can expect some exposure to Christianity.
